Spring Festival is big day for China,as it is Chinese New Year and welcome to the Year of the Dragon, everyone! Since our cultural knowledge of the traditions of Chinese New Year is admittedly somewhat limited, we thought that the best way we could join in on the festivities would be by highlighting the work of one very talented Chinese American designer – Alexander Wang. After all, what better way to celebrate a culture than by appreciating the contributions of its people?

Wang’s bags are likely familiar to most of you already, but he’s done something a little different for Resort and Spring 2012 – he used color. The man known for black and grey did an admirable job of brightening things up and even incorporating a print or two for the new season, and today seemed like a perfect day to feature several of our favorites. Take a look after the jump and let us know how you’re celebrating in the comments.

The Givenchy Antigona Satchel is such an under-appreciated handbag. The design is exceptionally crisp and minimal, it comes in a variety of sizes, materials and colors, it’s Givenchy, fer chrissakes. It’s far superior to the Givenchy Nightingale (says me), but yet, it’s not quite as well known. With Givenchy’s killer slate of Antigonas to come, Spring 2012 might change that.
For old collections we can not forget the great feature ones!

With this lineup, there’s a little something for everyone. Exotics, stitched details, brights-and-neutrals colorblocking, mirrored patent leather. The Antigona takes well to all of them because of its immaculate, well-edited structure; there’s never a metaphorical hair out of place on this bag. Check out the versions to come after the jump or shop Givenchy via Barneys right now.

One of my absolutely favorite bags that I own is my Balenciaga Giant City in Anthracite with Rose Gold Hardware. This bag took me what feels like eons to finally find and accept to be my first leather Balenciaga Bag. The reason for this is the color conundrum. While being known for their colors, Balenciaga has a way to find hues that literally change like mood rings in different lighting, and you need to see the bag up close to know that it is the color you desire. I thought I found the perfect BBag before, a Seigle Giant City, but I ended up returning it since the bag was more taupe in person than tan. But when I opened the box to unveil this Anthracite BBag, my heart was immediately taken and this bag has fast become one of my absolute favorite bags that I own. Buy Balenciaga bags online!
I haven’t used this bag enough to wear it down, but for owning it and carrying it for nine months so far I have absolutely no complaints. The leather is really smooshy and only gets nicer with time, the hardware has not lost its luster or flaked off in any place. The stitching is still in tact (though Amanda told me after all the use she has given her 2007 Balenciaga bag, which she still carries regularly, the stitching on the handle has begun to fray).

Each aspect of this bag shows that there was great attention to detail and the bag holds up extremely well.

Boring! But am I the only one who thinks it looks like it has a camel toe? lol I hate to be crude, but maybe its just the way the bag was photographed. lol I mean it would make sense because it’s called the bikini bag!

I searched PurseBlog and realized we only have a handful of posts on (most likely) my favorite color: cobalt blue. Blue has always been my color, but there is something about a bright shocking blue that is not overly aggressive but still lures me in so strongly. Celine did this wonderfully and I count myself as one of the few and one of the lucky to own a Celine Cobalt Blue Luggage Tote.

On the other hand, I’m in a love-hate relationship with Christian Louboutin bags, but the Bikini Pouch immediately caught my attention. The royal blue stands out beautifully against the watersnake zip top pouch which is offset by a silver-tone chain link strap. The interior of course features a red grosgrain lining with a slip pocket. Many times I show a bag that I think is absurd for our Fill in the Blank category, but this week I am changing it up by showing you a bag I adore. Do you too? Buy via Barneys for $995.

Remember the time when Amanda professed her love for the red Alexander McQueen Skull Clutch? If you did not, click back to refresh your memory. Everything about that clutch spoke to Amanda, from the designer to the design.

Amanda was all about the red paired with the skull clasp from a designer that she adores. Now I feel like one-upping her, because really, could the Alexander McQueen Skull Diamante Clutch be anymore amazing?
It is pretty simply for me to sum up why this clutch rocks. Number 1: it is Alexander McQueen, who is a design mastermind. Number 2: it is a perfect structured clutch shape. Number 3: The black crystals are a subdued cool attention-grabber. Number 4: The skull clasp is seriously awesome. Number 5: The inside lining is a chic pink nappa leather.

Gaging a trend’s lifespan can be a precarious endeavor, particularly when that trend is born out of something like leopard print, which is an innate classic whether its haters want to admit it or not. It’s been around for ages, and even though it tends to fall in and out of favor cyclically, it will never leave the style world entirely. For leopard lovers like me, that’s a beautiful thing.

Over the past couple of seasons, though, leopard has been pushed by every brand from Givenchy to the Gap. I find this Yves Saint Laurent Cabas Chyc Tote in leopard haircalf exceptionally beautiful, but thanks to overexposure, it does occur to me that some of you might disagree. We’ve set up a handy-dandy poll to measure your leopard fatigue after the jump, or you can buy this bag via Nordstrom for $2795.

At the risk of adding to the furious, endless, 24-hour Kardashian news cycle, the sisters have a new handbag line. A new handbag line in…Australia? Theirs is a global empire of PVC knockoffs, after all.

Anyway, we caught them hawking a nearly detail-for-detail copy of the Botkier Clyde Bag via their Sears-based Kardashian Kollection a couple of months ago, and now it seems that the sisters (or whoever designs their cheap crap) are taking their “inspired” handbags to the land down under. Fashionista.com matched up the stock images of the new Kardashibags to their designer equivalents, and although some of them are a bit of a stretch, a couple are clear derivations. Does this tactic bother you? Personally, I was more irritated when they did it to Botkier, which is a smaller independent brand.More louis vuitton reviews.

When a bag is as popular as the Celine Luggage Tote, it’s only logical that other brands will try to stand in the reflected glow of the design’s success by debuting bags that share certain characteristics with the one that everyone wants. This practice is as old as time, and it’s how trends in size, shape and color start. As long as the reinterpretation is reasonably original, it generally doesn’t bother me as a consumer.

Even with that in mind, though, I was surprised to see the Lanvin Gypsie Straw and Snakeskin Tote in the Resort 2012 pre-orders at Bergdorf Goodman. Lanvin tends to be a brand that shirks most trends in favor of its own brand of Parisian chic, so even though I don’t have a philosophical problem with the existence of this bag, I didn’t think I’d ever see it.

By now, the identifying details of the Luggage Tote are familiar – the gaping gussets, the north-south shape, the twin top handles, the front pocket. This bag is a more stripped-down and casual version of the Celine aesthetic, and as far as I know, the Luggage Tote has never been done in woven straw. There’s no curvy piped trim, of course, and the structure of the zipper pocket and gussets is different than on the Celine bag. It feels like this bag is different enough to exist, for sure, but not different enough for me to consider buying it. Buy through Bergdorf Goodman for $2190.

Excuse me while I echo the sentiments about the Dior Spring 2012 collection that have already been expressed by everyone else in the fashion industry: It’s kind of a placeholder, yes? Months have passed and Dior still doesn’t have a replacement for John Galliano, so the collection is being designed by what the French call “le studio.” Bill Gaytten, long Galliano’s right-hand man, has taken the reins, along with the rest of the Dior creative team.

The clothes and handbags that they created are serviceable, but not surprising or innovative. The purses are all shapes that we’ve seen before from Dior, but in varied fabrications and colors, much like the clothes were. Dior seems set on making pieces that will retail reasonably well until LVMH can find a real creative voice to lead the brand, and the intention is written all over this collection.
